Synthetic Vision And Lots Of Flying Here In Sebring

Well after some weather blew through yesterday, there were airplanes all over the sky here in Sebring today. I think everybody who didn’t fly in yesterday, arrived today, all at once. It was a real busy day with airplanes overhead and lots of noise from the race track having us wondering what cars are making the laps over there. There was a little fog this morning, and yesterday a tornado was moving through north of us. So when the weather improved we were excited to get flying again.

The MC has been getting lots of attention as this is the first chance for most to fly the airplane. More on that below. But the CTLS is also getting a lot of attention because it is the first SLSA to feature synthetic vision! The CTLS now features an optional Dynon Skyview PFD which surprised a lot of people who weren’t expecting to see synthetic vision in an LSA. We’re excited to offer the amazing technology, and it just shows once again that the industry leading Flight Design aircraft are very capable aircraft and offer pilots a lot more than just a simple, efficient airplane. Check out a demo video from Dynon below.

Out on the flight line, we spent the better part of the day giving demo rides to the media in the MC and were able to truly share our new plane with the world. We look forward to reading and seeing the reports in the near future!

Jan Fridrich from the Light Aircraft Association of the Czech Republic went for a flight in our new metal LSA aimed at the training market. Crossing over to the other side of Europe, Dan Unwin went out in the MC with its 52 inch wide cabin. Unwin is with Today’s Pilot from the United Kingdom.

Crossing the Atlantic, Jim Campbell of Aero News Network tested out the MC and his crew shot a video story featuring his first flight. We’re excited to watch it on Aero News TV soon.

Plane and Pilot’s LSA guru Jim Lawrence not only went flying in the MC, he was able to sit down with Flight Design CEO Mattias Brecht who was visiting from Germany HQ. Jim managed to get lots of good information in his interview, including some thoughts on the state of the industry and of course about the MC.

Overall it’s been a great time down here in Sebring. There is a definite feeling that things are getting better on the economic front and people want to start flying more. One of the things we love about this expo is that it is focused on sport aviation and people who just want to get up and fly. That’s all we want to do as well!!
