CTLS Water Landings Underway at Sebring

The CTLS was flying from the Runway at SEF five minutes away to Lake Jackson everyday during Sebring LSA Expo. A quick 100 Knot cruise after a short takeoff with Tom Gutmann of Airtime Aviation, John Gilmore of Flight Design staff enjoyed the experience of a series of water landings and takeoffs. Once you were over the strange feeling of a CTLS on short final with only water ahead, the thrill shown in this photo was obvious.
The floats are now approved and available for $42,000 including a new Sensenich 3 blade prop that gets the plane out of the water in 15-20 seconds at full gross weights.

Flight Design obtains EASA Design Organization Approval

The approval entitles Flight Design to conduct Type Certification of Aircraft with EASA for non-complex aircraft up to 1.200 kg MTOW. With this approval, Flight Design is now set to complete the Type Certification process of CTLS-ELA with EASA.

The Design Organization Approval was a mandatory prerequisite for this (R) TC under European Aviation Legislation. This approval also creates the required basis for future development of the company with upcoming projects including new US certified aircraft and allow us to enlarge the product offerings from Flight Design.

Key West to 2 feet of Ice in 8 hrs

Fred of Wisconsin sent us these photos of  N469K, after his second

trip of the year to Florida. Went to Key West between Christmas and New Years. Platteville to Sebring, one gas stop in Rome Ga. in 8 hrs flat, with a mere 10 knt tailwind part of the way.

Yesterday, we landed and took off all day from a backwater of the Mississippi that our cabin sits on. The ice was smooth and 2 ft thick. What a marvelous little plane.

Seeking New Dealers and announce a 4 Place Certified Aircraft

Flight Design is pursuing additional professional organizations as Service Centers, Sales Dealerships and Flight Schools as representatives for areas in the United States and looks to better serve more than 325 owners of CT-series Light-Sport Aircraft.

To help companies investigating entry to the world of Light-Sport Aircraft, Flight Design CEO, Matthias Betsch observed, “To discuss business opportunities, all top Flight Design management personnel will be available at the 2011 Sebring LSA Expo.”

“We believe 2011 will be a great year for Light-Sport Aircraft sales,” explained Flight Design USA president Tom Peghiny. “To assure those customers have access to the best service, and to make the CTLS available  closer to buyers, we are plan to enlarge our distribution outlets.”

Matthias Betsch also said that the company is nearing completion on a proof-of-concept four seat model of the CT series and expects to show the new aircraft for the first time at Aero in Friedrichshafen Germany in early April, 2011. “Following the German debut, we will bring our four-seat concept aircraft to AirVenture Oshkosh.” Betsch observed that aviation companies with a vision for tomorrow want to work with a best seller and a company that offers a range of aircraft.
