November 17, 2011 – The first meeting of the FAA’s newly formed Part 23 Reorganization Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC) took place this week in Washington, D.C., involving representatives from FAA’s Small Airplane Directorate, Aircraft Certification, and Flight Standards Service as well as aviation industry and community members, including EAA.

The ARC’s charter group is charged with creating a progressive, tiered certification system – from low-complexity, low-performance airplanes all the way to high-complexity, high-performance airplanes – so small recreational airplanes won’t have to be designed and certificated under the same regulatory requirements as heavier, more complex, and higher performance aircraft. The end-result should allow manufacturers to bring small planes to market faster and at less cost.
EAA Vice President of Industry and Regulatory Affairs Sean Elliott called the effort a “unique opportunity” for GA. “The possibilities are amazing,” Elliott said. “We’re bringing Part 23 into the 21st century, integrating modern technology, simplifying certification requirements, and improving safety. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for aviation.”
When its work is completed after 18 months, the ARC will submit a report detailing recommendations and tasks to Earl Lawrence, manager of the Small Airplane Directorate. Lawrence can extend the charter up to six months if needed.
Tom Peghiny President of FDUSA and John Doman- Director and – Business Development, Global Sales & Marketing for Flight Design GmbH Discuss developments on the C4 and answered some good questions raised this week by Meg Godlewski of GA News.

CTLS – CTsw – CT2K Enthusiasts Gathered in Page, Arizona
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA / October 27, 2011 – A flock of Flight Design CT series Light-Sport Aircraft flew in from all over the southwestern U.S. to attend the Fifth Annual National CT Fly-in in Page Arizona. The event took place over October 14-16, 2011.
Possessing the largest fleet in the Light-Sport Aircraft sector by a wide margin (nearly double the #2 seller), Flight Design is the most likely company to hold annual single-brand gatherings. Few other LSA producers have enough aircraft in a region to make such an event viable.
“Approximately 35 CTs attended the Fly-In,” observed John Doman, Director of Business Development and Global Sales & Marketing for Flight Design GmbH. Along with about 60 persons overall, John attended the Fly-in on behalf of manufacturer Flight Design GmbH of Germany. Most of the attendees were of retirement age, a common attribute among those buying and operating Light-Sport Aircraft, noted Doman. A few attendees were in the 25-40 age group. The majority of buyers purchased their CT for the ability to fly without an FAA Medical.
Flight Design has openings in the South East ( Atlanta to Florida) and Central (Chicago), Northwest (Seattle, Portland) area for several motivated Dealers to sell and service the Flight Design line of Aircraft, including the new C4.
